A training session was held for around twenty radio journalists on March 27, 2025, as part of the shark and ray conservation project in the Bijagós Archipelago.
Organized by the Regional Partnership for Coastal and Marine Conservation in West Africa (PRCM) in collaboration with the Institute for Biodiversity and Protected Areas (IBAP) and the NGO Palmeirinha, the workshop aimed to strengthen their skills in covering environmental issues.
Chaired by the Director-General of IBAP, Ms. Aissa Regalla de Barros, the session covered several key topics: the interactions between coastal ecosystems and fisheries resources, the network of marine protected areas in Guinea-Bissau, and the challenges related to fishing and marine biodiversity conservation. A video on sea turtle protection was also screened.

The discussions highlighted the difficulties journalists face in communicating these technical topics to the general public. A consensus emerged on the need for biologists to simplify their messages for better public understanding. Participants also stressed the importance of continued journalist training on environmental issues to improve public awareness effort
