A white paper on the strengths and weaknesses of institutions in the environmental management of offshore oil and gas activities is being prepared and will be released soon. It will capitalize on the best knowledge and good practices acquired in the field of sustainable management of oil and gas activities and address the challenges and shortcomings.
Under the leadership of the NGO BiodiverCités, the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Oil, Energy, Mines and Industry, 45 members of the Platform of Sea and Coastal Stakeholders decided to modify and enrich the first draft of the document. This was done during a participatory writing session that took place during a workshop in Nouakchott on September 29, 2022.
The book, scheduled for publication by the end of October 2022, will serve as a reference for national institutions in all sectors.
