With funding from the World Bank, the West Africa Coastal Areas (WACA) Project has emerged as a crucial initiative for preserving coasts and improving living conditions for communities in six West African countries: Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mauritania, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Togo. Since its launch, the project has been very instrumental in coastal resilience and ecosystem management through sustainable, integrated solutions.
By addressing the main threats to these coastal West African countries, such as erosion, flooding and ecosystem degradation, the WACA Project has had a particularly powerful and positive impact in the region. It has helped to protect natural habitats, strengthen coastal infrastructure and improve the livelihoods of local communities.
