The President of Guinea-Bissau receives the visit of PRCM Executive Director

On 27 January 2021, the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, His Excellency General Umaro El Mokhtar Sissoco Embalo, granted an audience to the Director of the PRCM, the purpose of which was for the Director to introduce the standards governing the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI) and explain the interest for Guinea-Bissau to join the Initiative.

The Director of the PRCM seized the opportunity of this high level visit to announce solemnly that the next edition of the regional coastal and marine Forum would take place in November 2021 and that it would be hosted by Guinea-Bissau.

It should be recalled that FiTI is a global initiative that sets internationally recognised procedures that countries can use to achieve and maintain high levels of transparency and management in the fishery sector.

The FITI’s objective is to enhance transparency and participation in fishery governance in order to ensure that fishery resources are managed in a more sustainable manner. Any country desiring to implement the Initiative must fulfil all applicable conditions, especially with regard to the involvement of stakeholders, the legal framework and the publication and quality of available data.
